Attract Sharks Out of the Net
Another option to reduce bycatch during the fishing operation is to attract sharks with bait or lure (or even using the FADs as an attractor) out of the net before the purse is closed.
The results of ISSF shark attraction experiments indicated that sharks can be attracted away from the FAD up to 500 m using chum or bait, a promising finding that will need further investigation.
